The game starts much like Nintendo's Pokemon games did. You go to Professor Oak to get your first Pokemon and he allows you to choose between Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtel. When you choose your Pokemon, hypnotized Rattata Pokemons start attacking the lab. As it is often the case with Pokemon series or games, Team Rocket is responsible for this and they are using their Pokemon to control those Rattatas.
In Pokemon Tower Defense HAcked, you can defend against the wave of attacks by putting your Pokemon in a square and just selecting which attack should be used. When the attackers get near, your Pokemon should be able to defend from them if you placed it right.
Your Pokemon's evolutions would look much like in the original games. The upgrades and attacks would also look pretty similar to what you could remember from Nintendo's games, if you played them. The process of catching the Pokemon is somewhat different and it's more similar to how you get new weapons in some other tower defense games.
Pokemon Tower Defense Hacked game is quite impressive for something that is free. You can use training machines, you can buy stones to evolve your Pokemon whenever you wish and there are many more things that aren't common for a free game.
Now, although Pokemon Tower Defense Hacked is a more recent game, don't expect some new fancy graphics. The graphics are very similar to what you could remember from the original Pokemon games. It has those pixel-art graphics that not many new games have, but this doesn't have to be a bad thing. Many Pokemon fans would probably love to see those graphics once again.
What may surprise some people who start playing Pokemon Tower Defense Hacked is that, in this game, Misty and Brock are villans. This game is more like the original console-based Pokemon games and less like those newer Pokemon anime series, that you could have seen on TV. Still, even if you only know Pokemons from the TV series, it wouldn't be very hard to follow the plot.
